The increase in sick leave entitlements
The sick leave entitlements increased from 5 to 10 days on 24 July 2021. This means that at the next anniversary date, employees who are entitled to sick leave are now entitled to a minimum of 10 days per year. This occurs either after reaching 6 months’ employment, or on their sick leave entitlement anniversary (12 months after they were last entitled to sick leave).
Employers should ensure this update is reflected in your payroll systems and employment agreements, and use this is an opportunity to consider your workplace sick leave policies.
